Description
Old Fireplace near Cambrai South Australia
The old fireplace is a reminder of the days gone by. Cambrai is a small town located on the eastern side of the Mount Lofty Ranges, along the River Marne. At the northern end of the former Apamurra to Sedan railway line. Originally named Rhine Villa. It was one of many Australian towns re-named during World War One to remove any connection with German place names. It was the given the name Cambrai after the Battle of Cambrai. As you travel around the outback areas you will come across many a lonely old fireplace. this is due to the fact that most of them are build from brick or stone, and the white ants and weather have demolished the rest of the house.
